Danielle Metcalfe-Chenail is an award-winning, multi-genre author of eight books who loves telling inclusive stories for audiences of all ages. She lives in Nova Scotia/Mi’kma’ki with her young family.
Alis the Aviator follows the aviation journey of Alis as she takes the reader through the A to Z planes of past and present. Named for Dr. Alis B. Kennedy, likely one of the first Indigenous women to obtain a commercial pilot licence with land and sea ratings in Canada, Alis will take you on an aviation tour through history.
Freddie the Flyer is a beautiful picture book inspired and co-authored by Fred Carmichael – the first Indigenous commercial pilot in the Arctic. The book explores Freddie’s aviation journey, with each month of the year highlighting moments from his life, the beauty of the North, and the power of dreams. It is part of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, was shortlisted for the Hackmatack nonfiction award, and won the First Nations Communities Reads Award and Atlantic Book Awards Reader’s Choice prize in 2024.
