70th Anniversary of the German Air Force

OCTOBER 15 – NOVEMBER 8, 2026

Developed by the German Air Force in celebration of their 70th anniversary, this exhibit will travel around the world to allied nations. One of its stops is here, at the National Air Force Museum of Canada.

The history of the German Air Force (Luftwaffe) is a story of new beginnings and change marked by crises and success, technological tensions, and above all by people fighting for freedom and democracy. Since its formation in 1955, it has evolved from a Cold War air force into a modern, operational air force equipped with sophisticated technology operating from on the ground, in the air, and in space.

This exhibition invites you to explore the evolution of the German Air Force and discover the missions, technologies, and responsibilities that have changed over 7 decades.

This exhibition pays tribute to members of the German Air Force – those who served in its ranks over the past 70 years and those who are serving today. It recognizes their professionalism and contributions to the security of Germany and its allies.
