Lancaster KB882 Restoration Project Update – Move to ATESS & Parts Needed
After calling the City of Edmundston, New Bruinswick home for 53 years, in April 2017 Lancaster KB882 was donated to the NAFMC , where it is currently undergoing an extensive restoration project that will return the aircraft to its Aerial Reconnaissance configuration. Once completed, KB882 will be the only fully restored Lancaster in the world displayed in Mk. 10 AR configuration, helping to tell the history of Canada’s Air Force during the Cold War.
Visitors may notice that our Restoration Workshop is looking a little empty lately, and those hoping to get a glimpse of KB882 will have to wait. This week, our Restoration Team moved the aircraft’s wings and fuselage to the Aerospace Telecommunications and Engineering Support Squadron (ATESS) at CFB Trenton where they will work alongside ATESS personnel on the exterior refinishing and paint. Following the completion of this phase of the project, KB882 will return to the Museum where the team will continue further restoration efforts.
While KB882 gets a facelift in the ATESS paint shop, interior restoration is on hold. The Museum is searching for original instruments (radios, dials, etc.) are needed for the cockpit, navigation seat, and radio shelves. If you have items that you are willing to donate and think may be relevant to the restoration of KB882, please reach out to Jennifer Dunn at assistantcurator@airforcemuseum.ca or by phone at 613-965-2511.
